In this course United States History Honors I learned a large number of important things that will help me for the future in many ways. Things that are need to be known for college and later in life, such as work.

This course is much like a college class which prepares you for college course also. I have learn a lot about the major wars in history, stuff that i had never know before. Genocide is another big concept talked about in this course which is not really talked about in other social studies classes. Its a good concept to talk and learn about because its not really featured in many textbooks because it is so bad. I will use these concepts later in college and to tell other people of what I was taught in history class.

MLK Motivates African Americans

We will be talking a lot about MLK and Malcolm X in class. Many would argue that these men were vastly different in their methodology.Yet others would argue that there were no differences between the two. Check out this doc, which provides you with quotes from both men. Using what we discuss in class and also what you infer from the doc/quotes, discuss in a blog post whose methodology was more effective in accomplishing goals set by the Civil Rights Movement.

Due to my knowledge and thoughts of the methodology used by Malcolm X and Martin Luther King i believe that Martin Luther Kings method was more effective to accomplish the goals of the Civil Rights movement. I think this because Martin Luther King was a fantastic public speaker, he could encourage a crowd to do anything and he was admired by thousands of African Americans across the country fighting for Civil Rights. The reason i picked Martin Luther King over Malcolm X was because Martin Luther King was known more and actual made improvements to Civil Rights. Also he was assinated for what he believed in by white people. Because they knew he was changing the country and they didn't want it to change. The words that came out of his mouth was mostly to motivate the Negro community, never be afraid and never give up until you are free.

In class we discussed the impact of the television on our society in the 1950s. For this post find a news article that details how television (film or music) has impacted society today. Provide some commentary answering the question: Does media influence the actions of teenagers? Also, be sure to include a link to your news story somewhere in your post.

Yes, i do think the media influences the actions of teenagers because if you watch something on T.V or a video game you would want to go outside and do it. Kind of like Call of Duty, its no fun playing it you just want to go out and do it yourself to be cool. Thats what i thought when i was a teenager. Also a lot of T.V shows says " Kids don't try this at home" because it dangerous when they say this we want to do it more. Teenagers love to watch T.V and play video games thats what we do when we are bored, and we can relate it to real life situations so yes the media does influence the actions of teenagers. We recently investigated some advertisements from the 1950s, many of which displayed sexism towards women. Check out this site, which offers hundreds of ads to choose from. Choose an ad from the 1950s that displays sexism and discuss how the ad you chose demonstrates this concept. As always, your blog posts must be school appropriate in both language and content.

This advertisement from 1957 shows a Vintage Sedan Cadillac the best at that time. This is a sexiest add because this advertisement is mostly for women who would drive this car. The title says "No man is ever a stranger" which makes me think like a women is driving the car and it impress the man. This is just one of many sexiest adds in the 1950's. The picture also shows a women driving the car and with rich people around it looking at it in amazement. This looks as if it is at a very rich hotel or something else like that which makes this picture very rich and classy.

Outline: The Majestic

I. Peter Appleton and Introduction
A. A famous movie writer who is in the theater with his girlfriend who stars in his movie. His movie is called "Sand Pirates of the Sahara".
B. His life is going well he has a lot of money, drives a nice car, and has a good-looking wife.

II. Congress Accused him of being Communist
A. Just as he is beginning to enjoy his life, bad things happen. Congress of the United States of America accuse Peter of being a Communist after he attended a Communist meeting in college.
B. Because of this his next movie he wrote "Ashes to Ashes" gets cancelled.
1. The real reason for Peter attending the meeting in college was to impress a girl.

III. The Accident
A. After Congress wrongly accuses him, he is depressed and gets drunk.
B. Attempting to drive, he cashes his car into the side of a bridge.
1. Him and his car fall in to the fast flowing river and begins to flow fast down stream and hits his head pretty bad.

IV. Washes Up on the Beach
A. Wakes up on the beach with a dog in his face and a old man greeting him.
B. He has no memory of anything in his life.
1. Old man takes him into the town.

V. Remembering Luke
A. When he enters the town many people say he looks familiar. After eating and seeing the Doctor, Luke's dad walks up and takes him home. He tells Peter that you are my son.
B. Peter doesn't remember anything and believes this he now thinks he is Luke Trimble, he finds out that the town has lost a lot of young men and sons because of World War II.

VI. High School Sweetheart
A. Now that Peter thinks he is Luke, when Luke's high school girlfriend sees him they began to talk again.
B. She helps him try to remember his earlier life.

VII. Rebuilding the Majestic
A. The Majestic is the old movie theater in the town. Luke and his father owns it and they began working on it to fix it up for re-opening.
B. Everyone helps them put the theater back to the way it was and it was great when they finished it.

VIII. Luke's Father's Death and Peter finding out his is not Luke
A. Soon after the theater was re-opened, Luke's father falls ill of a heart attack which will later kill him.
B. Peter watches his movie "Sand Pirates of the Sahara" and figures out his is Peter not luke.
1. Luke's Father dies without knowing Peter was not his son Luke.

IX. Communist Witch Hunt come for Peter
A. The whole town finds out that Peter is not Luke, which is a very sad moment because they needed him to be Luke so they have hope of the others sons that died at war.
B. The FBI roll into town with about 12 cars to arrested Peter and tell him to testify in court the next day.

X. Supreme Court Case
A. Luke's high school sweetheart tells Peter to stand up for what himself and what's right in the United States and for the freedom of others.
B. Peter does not know what to do and goes to Court with a letter from Luke to his girlfriend which encourages Peter to stand up to the supreme court.
C. The court case is live on television so everyone can watch, Peter does not testify, but stands up for the sons of the small town in California and for those who died in World War II. He also reads part of the Constitution and says this is not American this is not freedom which speaks for everyone in the United States.

XI. Conclusion
A. Peter is released from the court and the lawyer in the car says he has won the court case and does not have to go to jail because he stated the girls name who was also in Hollywood.
B. Peter returns to the California town, and is greeted by a band and everyone in the village, it was a celebration.
C. He finds Luke's high school sweetheart and creates a family and runs the Majestic.

Topic 10 Concept Guide

McCarthyism Impact on Society- He charges Hollywood directors, producers and writers with Communist propaganda in films, mainly goes after the Hollywood top 10 which is the most famous in Hollywood. Many leaders are convicted also. Sets up House Committee of un-American activities. He also accused Department of State of harboring Communists. The second red scare occurs which causes America to panic over Communism.

Communist "witch hunt" and impact on those accused- The witch hunt was supported by hundreds of anti-communists groups and by the government. Hundreds of writers, directors and producers went to jail that were in the entertainment business. A lot of people lost their jobs and lots of money that they needed to live. This invaded the lives of Americans which was against rights of being an American citizen.

Space Race impact of Government policies- This began the cold war and race to space. The Soviet Union won the race to space with Sputnik 1. As a result of this the U.S Government puts more money into education and sets up more space programs that are feed with money by the government. In 1969 the USA put a man on the moon which really wins the cold war.

Cold War mind set for the United States Government and policies- This was the cause of the cold war and influenced it a lot. Soviet Union won race to space with technology and in a race with more technology. United States scared of Communists and being defeated.

Relationships of Suburbs, automobiles and roads- The Suburbs are away from the cities, less packed with roads and much more quieter. More roads and more highways mean more jobs and more sale of cars. You could now live out of the busy city due to the expansion of roads and highways.

Baby Boom- Since the war is over in Europe and Pacific the soldiers came home to their wives and had children. 1946-1960 is when this occurred and peaked 1955 which means the highest point. Caused consumer boom which means everyone was buying stuff. Removal of social and economic restraints that kept people from having large families. Social Security issues occur now because of this.

Urban-Suburban pattern-Inner cities have low income families, Suburbs have middle income families and further Suburbs have high income families. The further u get away from the cities the more income you will earn.

GI Bill- supports those who served in the war, by giving them health insurance and education. One year compensation.

Expansion of middle class- Suburbs were less expensive like Levvittown which houses were worth $8,000. Number of credit cards increased. Baby boom causes consumer boom and families began to move to the suburbs because of baby boom.

Casablanca

Create an outline for the film Casablanca that we screened in class. Your outline should include major events, characters, and pieces of the plot/storyline. B. Germans start to sing a song, when Victor hears it he orders the cafe to sing back, Germans get very angry. A result of this is that the Germans order Rick to shut down his cafe until further notice.
C. Ilsa attempts to get the letters of transit from Rick.
1. Ilsa will not shoot Rick because she loves him and Rick will not give her the letters of transit. Ilsa in Paris thinks Laszlo is dead when she falls in love with Rick but he is not dead. When the Nazi's were about to invade Paris, Ilsa left Rick with just a letter because she found out that Laszlo was alive.

V. Falling Action
A. Rick agrees to help Ilsa and Laszlo and to get them to safety.
1. When Ilsa is in Ricks office, Laszlo walks into the cafe , and Laszlo tells Rick that he knows about him and Ilsa.
B. Police arrest Victor.
1. Rick tells police to let him go and wait until he has the letters of transit so they can arrest him on a greater charge.

VI. Conclusion
A. At the airport when Ilsa and Victor are about to leave, the police turn up and Rick holds a gun to the police saying he will shoot them if they do not let Ilsa and Victor go.
1. Ilsa does not want to go and leave Rick with the Nazi's. Later she agrees.
B. Nazi leader turns up and Rick shoots him and kills him. Rick and police become friends as the plane leaves.

Role of Women During WWII- Only worked on the battlefield because were nurse and helping the injured and hurt. Did not fight in war. Took the jobs of men who went to Europe and the Pacaifc to fight the war.

Cause and Effect of Use of the Atomic Bomb- killed 250,000 people it was said but many more was actually killed. Millions were effected and destroyed to big major cities in Japan. Ended WWII in the Pacific theater.

US Foreigh Policy Before, During, and After the War- US helped aid the war for allied forces and gave them weapons and battleships. US were islonatists which means did not want to join the war stay out of European affairs. After Americans were scared of communists countries so they began to imperlism which makes countries deocratic governments so it was a pro-american socitey around american.

Effects of the War on Europe- most European cities destroyed, many people died and loss of strong men because many were killed in the war. Many Jews had been killed so the religion had decreased in population.

Effect of Pearl Harbor Attack- America entered the war the day after. Pacific fleet was stationed at Pearl Harbor so it was badly hit and many ships were lost. 2,000 people died.

Japanese Internment- Japanese Americans were sent to camps by American Government becaouse of military tactics and could be spying on US. Exclusion area was California, Oregon, and Washington. Supreme court case USA vs Kormazu, he wanted to sue the fedral government for violating his rights. Later Government said sorry for this and paid money to the people who were in the camps.

Neutrality Acts- Acts to stay out of the war. US battleships could not be armed which was pointless to have the battleships. Americans could not travel on ships in the Atlantic ocean because they were under attack from German U-boats.

Purpose of Propaganda- to get US involed on the war. Germans also wanted other countries to attack US so Germans did not have to fight them.

Rationing- Many people starved to death, as their was a shortage of food during the war. Russia starved a lot of countires and many people began to eat family members to live. Very hard times to live in. Russia wanted to destroy these people mentally and pyshically.

Results of World War II- European cities were destroyed, US economy is helped by war, more money for US people and people in US could live better. NATO was formed as a result of the red scare.

My Reaction to Holocaust Survivors

The University of Southern California (USC) maintains the Shoah Foundation. The Shoah Foundation has digitized hours of footage of the testimony from Holocaust survivors. Also view one more video on the Shoah website and write a reaction statement about the clips - your reaction statement should include your feelings after viewing the pieces.

This video shocked me on how people were kept and how a beautiful women was beat up and her hair had been cut off. Was a very sad moment for him and his mother as it was the last time he ever saw his mother. I can't even begin to imagine the feeling and emotions going through George's head. Seeing that his mother was beaten and abused that bad would have made me very angry and could not of helped but of reacted in a bad manner towards the Germans. He was given food and a pocket knife when he entered the women's concentration camp and I'm not quite sure why. George must have a strong boy same with his brother so they were chosen for work. My reaction this video was very sad and almost made me cry. After watching the second video my reaction was that anybody even related to jews was considered a jew which was not right and makes me think that the Germans wanted to chill a lot of people. From the story of Alex Chevion a jewish holocaust survivor explains that he was first moved to the ghettos which was camps before the final solution. The Germans just did not care about who they were killing or hurting, the goal was to destroy these people mentally and emotionally.

German Gun Holster

Ebay has everything... including artifacts from World War II. For this blog post we are going kindergarten and you will conduct a virtual show and tell. Find an artifact from World War II on ebay that peaks your interest. Then on your blog show and tell about your artifact. Your readers will want to know what your item is and why this item is significant.

For my show and tell World War II artifact i have picked a German Gun Holster used in World War II priced at $300. The Holster was used to hold a pistol on the belt of a German soldier or officer. It was used before World War II started and during the War. Made in 1937 by Karl Barth Waldbrohl Rheinland. It had to be easy to open so that the pistol could be used in action fast and so it was facing the right way. It is attached to your belt, which I'm sure would not be very comfortable. This item is significant because you can not find many German Gun Holster left today in the world as they were all destroyed after the war as evidence. This Holster especial is significant because its one of the last of its kind. Black leather Holster's are very rare to find from World War II and not many are left. This must have been the Holster for a high ranking Nazi official.

To get an idea for which regions of the world are currently threatened by genocide, check out the United States Holocaust Museum's "Who's at Risk?" page. After reading through the breif on each of the countries, discuss whether countries like the US should get involved in interventions related to these countries. Governments and other political parties have been attack civilians all throughout history and is still happening today. I believe the United States should get involved in these conflicts because the United States is a world power and should be helping other countries. Examples of the United States helping would be World War I and World War II. If countries like the United States did not get involved in these conflicts the genocide would continue to get worse and elevate. Many problems related to the economy of these countries would occur which would eventually effect the world. Genocide is the mass extinction of a race or religion. Which is very bad but happens all over the world and we must fight to stop it. It is not right. I know that the United States is geographically on the other side of the globe, but other countries such as Great Britain and Russia could also get involved as are closer to the rest of the world. The United States and other countries should get involved because its unfair on the people who live in the countries and the people that the genocide is effecting. They need to be helped because they can't fight for themselves against a country.

Cinderella Man Outline

After screening Cinderella Man in class this week, create and outline of the film and post it to your blog. Since Cinderella Man is based on a true story, your outline should include at least three links (in text) that take readers to primary sources that relate to topics in the film. (Mandatory).

The movie Cinderella Man starts off with a boxing match which James J. Braddock is in. The boxing match is held at Madison Square Garden in New York City. James wins the boxing match and after the match he takes a taxi home with his agent or friend. He earns a lot of money that night which is need because of the great depression. This movie is set 4 years into the great depression. When he gets home his wife and kids are there to congratulated him on his victory. That morning there is no milk at the front door and not much food to go around. James gives up his meat for his son. Breakfast is small because times are hard. He goes to see if he gets picked for work today since they don't need that many people helping at the dock. He is not picked but his friend is. Only 7 out of around 30 are picked for jobs in the great depression period. When he gets home his son has brought home a big piece of meat and not saying where he got it from. So James takes him back to the butcher store and gives the butcher the meet back. He promises his son he will never have to leave his home because of the great depression. The next day a boxing match. Into the match fans start to boo as it is not entertaining enough. James hits hard with his right and breaks his hand. Fans boo and after the match James license to fight is revoked as he is injured. A quote from the movie as his agent tells him to go home James says "Go home with what". No money and James hand broken in two places. This time at the dock 5 get picked. James is one of them, he is doing good at the job until a worker asks what's wrong with your hand. He says nothing and goes to have a drink with his new friend at the bar, they talk about stocks. December 1933 electric gets turned off in the apartment or house. James gets wood for the fire and kids are sick. They have to be sent away. James is very sad and angry at himself for breaking his promise. Next day he gets a boat to the City and walks into Madison Square Garden, a lot of rich men talking, smoking and drinking. James makes a speech and begs for money to turn his power back on. He gets it and goes home very happy. Family is back and family is happy again. Birthday party next day and gets in a fight with his friend for fighting with his wife. Agent calls up and says you have a one deal fight for $250 he takes it. This is on June 14, 1934 Braddock vs Griffin. Everyone says he is going to get beat. He wins the fight and shocks the world. After this James starts to train again and gets back into fighting. He wins the next couple of fights and due to me being absent i did not see the last part of the movie. Im guessing he wins the heavy weight championship and makes history. Making his family very proud and very rich.

Concept Guide

Scopes Trial- creationism vs evolution, man was teaching creationism in school and had to go to court because of it.

Prohibition- January 1920, it went into effect in the United States of America, means not to do something. Alcohol was illegal to to create but was not illegal to transport it, have it on you or drink it. The IRS enforced these laws and women wanted it banned because of too much drinking and men get angry.

Flappers- Women in the 1920 with short hair, lots of makeup, smokes tobacco, shoulders and knees exposed.

Economic Issues-Consumer demand, credit was no available to the consumers, low interest rates and introduction to the installment plan.

Dust Bowl-Poverty rates were very high in the Great Plains during the 1920's. Drout, over farming, roating fields and machines doing the harvest all caused the dust bowl. Where wind picks up dead land or sand into the air and destroy houses, farms and burys lots of things with sand.

Agriculture Issues-Too much farming in the Great Plains and not roation of the fields were great agricultural problems during the 1920's.

Immigration Policies- Only let a certain amount of people from each country into the United States. If it went over the number no more people were allowed in. Asians were ban. United States could thrive without immigrants. A quoter was introduced and said that 20% of immigrants form 1890 were allowed in, if it went over this no more were allowed in. United States were isolationist's.

Nativism- U.S is the best we don't need anyone else. U.S scared from anything not American.

Literacy Works- Jacbo A. Ribs, Upton Sinclair wrote the Jungle, and Ralph Mader all famous writers about the times of 1920's or in the 1920's.

Great Migration- African Americans moved from the rural south to the industrial city north. Caused lots of racial tensions between African Americans and Whites. African Americans began to celebrate and this caused the Harlem Renaissance.

Harlem Renaissance- African American culture thrived in the 1920's due to the Great Migration. Songs, music, poems, literacy work, jazz and a big celebration of culture.

Sacco and Vanzetti- were anarchist's which means that they were against the government. Both Italian's which were trailed for robbery and murder in Braintree, Massachusetts. Killed by the elcetric chair and did not know if they were gulity only thought they were.

Labor Issues- Soldiers came back from WWI had no jobs. All their jobs had been taken either by women or by other men. This created a large problem and provety rates also. They also started drinking a lot because they came back from war.

Red Scare- Bolshevik Revolution occurs during WWI. Lenin Comes to power in Russia/USSR. Communist dictator, the United States was scared of Communism. Americans were scared of anything not American. Palmer Raids happened were people who were un American were arrested because of their acts. No defense and espionage and sedition acts came into play.

Schneck Vs. U.S-created Patriot acts, sedition acts, and espionage acts. That were pro-American. Quotas system also came into play.

Weekly Article 02.11.11

Check out this site that provides information about the Trial of Sacco and Vanzetti. For this weekly article, take on the role of a CSI investigator as if they had been around in the 1920s, and investigate the case. Research the site and the primary documents that are provided to develop a case supporting or one against Sacco and Vanzetti. You must utilize information and resources to back up your case.

Due to evidence and investigation that the CSI have come across we believe Sacco and Vanzetti where involved with the murders. Eye witness place Sacco and Vanzetti in the area at the time of the murder which is hard evidence against the case. One eye witness saw Vanzetti get of a train at East Braintree at 10 o'clock. Another eye witness says they saw Vanzetti in the back of a car near south Braintree square between ten and twelve. After an eye witness heard gun shots he saw Vanzetti driving a car near South Braintree station. All of these eye witness could have been wrong, but one of them has to be correct. It comes to my attention that Sacco was absent from work all day wen the murders occurred. Which is very odd to me. Seven eye witness say to saw Sacco in the area at the time of the murders. While others say he say the bandits and one of them was him but failed to complete a identification. After we arrested Sacco he told us numerous lies about his whereabouts and denied holding anarchist or radical beliefs. This prosecution suggested that theses lies showed consciousness of guilt. The gun found on Vanzetti at the time of his arrested was a 38 calibre Harrington and Richardson Revolver with the hammer repaired. Evidence presented that paymaster guard Berardelli also had a hammer repaired. He told us he bought the gun at a store but could not remember which one, he also lied about how much the gun cost and where the bullets came from. Ballistics expert Proctor testified that bullet 3 was consistent with being fired through Sacco's pistol. Expert Van Amburgh noted a scratch on bullet 3 likely to be made by a defect in the rifling of Sacco's pistol. The picture to the top right shows the ballistic evidence of Sacco's pistol and relates Sacco to the murder. At the time of their arrest Sacco and Vanzetti had just gone to the house of the owner of a car repair shop were a man connected with a stolen Buick that was presumed to be the car used in the murder had taken an overland to be repaired. Due to the evidence i have presented you with i must conclude Sacco and Vanzetti guilty and be up for the death penalty. A map of the murder shows that the murder was conducted on a main road, easy for the murderer to get away in a car. Why would Sacco and Vanzetti lie about were they bought their guns and were they where at the time of the murder. It makes no sense the only reason i can conclude and must use is that they are guilty.

Weekly Article 03

Over the past few weeks a non-profit organization known as WikiLeaks has dropped bombshells with the release (or "leaks) of important classified documents from governments around the world. The argument from the organization is that they want to keep governments "open" about their issues and policy. Read some articlesabout the WikiLeaks debaucle and express your thoughts about the global issue. Due to a non-profit organization known as WikiLeaks has been giving classified information to governments all over the world. This is not a good idea as governments could get very angry and not like what the information is about which could start lots of problems. Such as wars, strikes, and riots in cities and countries. What gives the right to these organization to give out information? There are no rules or laws about giving out information and the organizations are not doing anything wrong. But hurting governments and countries relationships which could possibly start world war III. Keeping governments open about issues and policy's might be a good idea but you do not know how they will react to the information and what consequences will occur due to this information being released. I don't know what the organizations are trying to accomplish but its not right what there doing. Like many people say what governments do not know will not hurt them. Which is right in the case for everyones own good and safety. If governments are open they can help each other much better if they know everything about the government. Then we can all live under one government we wont need countries or branches of government anymore and there would be no more wars. Sort of like Communism, which may not work for todays world.
